The Earth and Seed

Doppelganger

I need you old friend. You were there for me so many times in the distant past. Despite the guilt, the shame and the consequences of the period I once knew you, I have now found value in your memory. The shudders that used to come from reflection are now prayers for one more meeting.

I betrayed you long ago, my friend. You see, it was for better then and not for worse. You were a load too heavy to carry. We would cross the rivers stone by stone never getting wet until one day you fell and pulled me in. I thought I almost drowned, but in order to swim, I let you drift away. Now I sit on the bank hoping to catch you hopping across once more, hoping you'll get me across one more time.
